    David Herman, Public Works Director

    David Herman has been employed by the City of Van Meter since November 1998.  He is a graduate of the Van Meter Schools and is a life-long resident.

    David has many responsibilities as Public Works Director that include the operation of the water and sewer systems, street maintenance, maintenance of the cemetery and city parks, and oversees repairs and construction projects.

    Many of these duties require continuing education through special training organizations.  David maintains a Grade I  Water Operator and Grade I Waste Water Operator Certificate.

    David Herman Recognized for Years of Service

    Public Works Director, David Herman marked his 20 year work anniversary with the City on November 23, 2018.

    During the November 19, regular business meeting of the Van Meter City Council, Mayor Allan Adams presented Herman with a service award recognizing his 20 years of service.

    The City is grateful for his years of service and appreciates his dedication to the profession.

    Herman is a vital member of the City's team and oversees all aspects of the City's Public Works programs and initiatives.


    Patrick Alexander, Public Works Operator

    His responsibilities are not limited to only those listed.  He will receive training in all areas of Public Works.

    Patrick Alexander of Van Meter is the full time Public Works Operator as of December 2018.

    Pat is a Van Meter resident since 2014. He lives with his wife Megan, sons Tate and Myles, a girl due in May 2019.

    He is an Iowa Hawkeyes and San Francisco 49ers fan. He enjoys golfing and learning how to smoke meats.

    He assists Public Works Director David Herman in the day-to-day operations of streets, water and sewer maintenance.  In addition to those duties, he helps mow the cemetery, parks and other city maintained areas.
