Arlington Avenue Street Resurface Project

Project Overview: This is a City of Van Meter project located within the corporate limits of the City of Van Meter. This project involves resurfacing  and improvements of Arlington Avenue in the City of Van Meter. The improvements include resurfacing the PCC pavement of Arlington Avenue, replacement of curb and gutter, installation of storm water, replacement of intakes, sidewalks & driveway approaches, seeding & miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup. This project is funded by revenue generated by the State of Iowa’s Road Use Tax fund as allocated to the City of Van Meter and Series 2021 bond proceeds.  

This project will result in the short-term road closure of Arlington Avenue, resulting in restriction of access to driveways of properties located on Arlington Avenue, no street parking on Arlington Avenue, limited sidewalk accessibility and installation of a neighborhood Cluster Box Unit (CBU) for mail delivery service throughout the duration of the project. The City is working with the contractor and consultant to identify parking and accessibility alternatives as well as the location of the temporary CBU. Impacted properties will be provided further information prior to commencement of the project.

Upon completion of the project, the neighborhood Cluster Mailbox unit will remain as the mail delivery system for the properties located on Arlington Avenue. The City is working with the contractor to determine the location for the permanent CBU for centralized mail delivery. Both the temporary and permanent CBUs will feature weather resistant individual locking compartments and built-in parcel lockers. The shift to neighborhood CBUs is a City-wide initiative that is most frequently seen in new developments but will be more prevalent as the City undertakes street, water and sewer rehabilitation projects within the entirety of the City.
